چکیده

A cell model is developed and validated to analyze the performance of polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) stacks systems. It used characterize oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity on a TiO2-supported IrO2 catalyst an unsupported powder catalyst. Electrochemical, stack, system thermoneutral potentials are defined determined for isothermal non-isothermal stack operation. Conditions under which potential or flammability H2 in O2 anode stream limits turndown operating temperature. Performance analyzed complete PEMWE with electrolyzer containing IrO2/TiO2 (2 mg/cm2 Ir loading) N117-like mitigated crossover, balance-of-plant (BOP) components, cathode BOP temperature swing adsorption purification, electrical transformer rectifier. At rated power condition, as 2 A/cm2 at 1.9 V, 80 °C, 30 bar pressure, stack/system efficiency 65.3%/60.3% beginning life (BOL), decreasing 59.3%/53.9% end (EOL). The peak 76.3%/70.2% BOL, 71.2%/65.6% EOL. Improvements identified 50% increase current 3 1.8 V.

Polymer Electrolyte Membranes for Water Photo-Electrolysis

Water-fed photo-electrolysis cells equipped with perfluorosulfonic acid (Nafion® 115) and quaternary ammonium-based (Fumatech® FAA3) ion exchange membranes as separator for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions were investigated. Protonic or anionic ionomer dispersions were deposited on the electrodes to extend the interface with the electrolyte. The photo-anode consisted of a large band-gap ...

A Study of Stirred Tank Reactor Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell Stack Dynamics

A stirred tank reactor design of a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell was modified and expanded into a stack. Steady-state as well as transient dynamics of the stack at various feed flow rates was examined. Non-uniform distribution of reactants led to differences in individual cell voltages. Instabilities of current and voltages were observed at low feed flow rates, and these could ha...

Optimization of membrane stack configuration for efficient hydrogen production in microbial reverse-electrodialysis electrolysis cells coupled with thermolytic solutions.

Waste heat can be captured as electrical energy to drive hydrogen evolution in microbial reverse-electrodialysis electrolysis cells (MRECs) by using thermolytic solutions such as ammonium bicarbonate. To determine the optimal membrane stack configuration for efficient hydrogen production in MRECs using ammonium bicarbonate solutions, different numbers of cell pairs and stack arrangements were t...
